The most difficult work in a project of this sort comes in the first phase. Accordingly, Dr. Margaret Vendryes and her students must be acknowledged as the real trailblazers for this online gallery. Then, five years later, the students in Writing for Electronic Media set out to more than double the number of works of art in the catalog. Communications Technology majors, English majors, Business Administration majors, and Spanish majors contributed their particular skills to key elements of hte project. While a doubling of the catalogued art was not fully achieved over a mere 6 weeks of coursework, the students participated actively in all phases of this major project.

Of course, quantity can never be the sole (or even primary) measure of success. For each piece in the original catalog, students on the "links team" conducted research and located excellent supplemental web-based content. The links accompanying the descriptions of the art, along with the textual descriptions associated with those resources, are almost entirely the work of the links team. This work is an indispensible part of the project that makes the website truly part of the world wide web.

The "art team" spent days touring the campus with appropriate digital photographic equipment to secure the best possible visual representations of the art. They digitally edited the art, resized it to fit, and contributed significantly to the interactive visual elements sprinkled throughout the site. Their work here helps put this website on par with some of the best museum websites in the world. This level of production will surprise no one who has seen the quality of work that York College's Communication Technology majors can produce.

And, of course, the overall website would not have been possible without the hard work and imagination of the "web design team." This group reviewed museum website designs, web portfolios, and online galleries to develop a design and color palette for this project. Working from a bare bones web template, team members built a site map to sketch out the connections between content areas, a storyboard sketch of the site, and graphical and interactive features.

Reginald Augustin
Mr. Augustin collected information about Ernest Garthwaite, and helped move the original print descriptions of several artists into a format more suitable to the web. He also arranged for and conducted the interview with Professor James M. Como that appears in the Sina Yussuff and Ernest Garthwaite sections of the site. He also made the initial edits for those clips.
Sheena Babb
Ms. Babb (York College/CUNY class of 2008) is an English major and Senior at York College. She worked as part of the links team in charge of locating good web-based resources related to each work of art or artist. She also prepared a description of some of Sina Yussuff's artwork.
Iddan Brown
Mr. Brown conducted research on Doris Price's Phoenix, and participated in the creation of the interactive image displays.

The project provided students the opportunity to consider connections and discontinuities between print and web writingi. Professor Cripps helped each student team, and guided the individual students in the selection of and research for an artist's work. He also contributed content to the Project section of the website.
Kyle Dabrowski
Mr. Dabrowski prepared background material on Richard Hunt's sculpture. He also handled much of the digital photography and some image editing for the site. Mr. Francis participated in work related to Al Loving's work of art.
Adam Gecker
Mr. Gecker (York College/CUNY class of 2008), major in Business Administration, helped locate relevant external links for a number of the artists as part of the links team, and prepared brief descriptions of the links.
